BIO

Genevieve Flavelle is an artist, curator, and scholar based in Toronto. Her multidisciplinary practice spans artmaking, curatorial work, and research, with a sustained interest in queer and feminist histories and craft traditions.

She holds a PhD in Art History from Queen’s University and a BA from NSCAD University. Her expertise is in global contemporary art with a focus on 2SLGBTQ+ artists and art histories. Her writing has appeared in art magazines, exhibition catalogues, and academic publications, including the Journal of Feminist Scholarship. She has taught courses on contemporary art and curating at Queen’s University and McMaster University.

As a curator, she has organized exhibitions in galleries and artist-run centres across Canada, most recently Celestial Bodies: Expanding Sexuality and Gender at the Campbell River Art Gallery (2023). From 2023–2024, she was Curator-in-Residence at McMaster University.

Alongside her curatorial and scholarly work, she maintains an active studio practice.
